What are the roles and responsibilities in your current position?

Emergency Nurse- caring for a variety of age groups (babies to elders) in their most vulnerable/acutely ill state. Working closely with physicians and advocating for the patient to ensure they get the best possible care.

What barriers did you have to overcome to succeed?

There are a lot of barriers to healthcare in this day in age. Hospitals are short staffed during a time when healthcare workers are needed most; healthcare workers are burnt out, overworked, and patient care suffers from it. It’s a ripple effect. One solution that everyone can contribute to is being respectful to one another. Have respect for your health care workers who are doing the best they can with the little resources they have. Show respect to all patients, their voices matter and their concerns deserve to be addressed.

What is your advice for healthcare students?

Prioritize taking care of yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
You don’t have to have all the answers, just know where to find them.
Say yes to every learning opportunity presented to you. You will see and do some cool stuff throughout your years as a student and new grad.
